As we are getting into the festive spirit and eager to spend time with loved ones – here are five useful tips to keep your property safe and secure over the Christmas break:
Get into the habit of checking your windows and doors are locked. We understand this is a busy time of year for both professionals & students, and its not uncommon to forget to check that your windows and doors are locked.
Make sure no post or parcels are left in the letterbox. A burglar will notice a property is unoccupied by unread post. You can keep your post and personal details safe by asking Royal Mail to withhold post with this link: https://www.royalmail.com/personal/receiving-mail/keepsafe
Your contents insurance is valid. Before you leave for Christmas, make sure you know what is covered by your insurance company and what you would need to make a claim if necessary.
Empty the fridge of perishable foods and make sure no food is left out. No one wants to return after a well-deserved break to mouldy food or even unexpected guests!!
Leave your boiler on and set your thermostat to a temperature of 10-15 degrees when you vacate your property for the Christmas period. The cold days and nights mean our properties are prone to damp and condensation if not kept warm. Furthermore, many people experience frozen or burst pipes due to switched off boilers, which can easily be avoided just by keeping the boiler on.
